Palm Art Award 2005
Prize Winner
Judi Morton   MA

Judi studied at St.Albans College of Art, where she did a foundation course under the tutorage of Roger Leaworthy and Arnold
van Praag.

In the early Eighties, when living in North Wales and running a smallholding, she attended Liverpool Polytechnic where she
attained her BA Hons in Fine Art (tutor Mike Knowles). During 2001 she achieved her MA at Christchurch University College,
Canterbury, working under  Bob Stone and Dave Shutt.

Since 1981 her works have shown in successful exhibitions throughout England and Wales. She has worked on various private
and public group projects including producing a mural with young offenders in a high security prison.

Intensely involved with landscape her work centres on the search for a painterly language through which to express the
'essence' of place.  It is the infinite possibilities of a landscape, which provide a catalyst for artistic enquiry.  The variety of light,
colour, atmosphere and location are a constant inspiration.  A balance is sought between the intellectual order of studio practice,
memory and direct observation.

Judi has now opened her own Gallery  - The White Gallery,
22 Nelson road, Westward Ho!

The Appledore Press are privileged to have worked with Judi on this, her first limited edition of lithographs. She is an
outgoing, friendly, enthusiastic person who is able to relate naturally to people and to her work. The experience has
been both professional
and fun.

The limited edition, of 125 plus 10 A/P titled "Esperar" has been a collaboration between  the Artist and the
Lithographer. Using the method of traditional lithography, each colour has been drawn by the Artist onto separate zinc
plates and then pulled by hand. This is an edition of original lithographs, each one supplied with a Certificate of
Authenticity signed by both the Artist and Lithographer

The Appledore Press, established in 1976, has a reputation for producing original lithographs of the finest
quality. Our limited editions are printed entirely by hand, using light-fast French inks and quality papers.

Master lithographer David Tomlin has many years experience, working with internationally acclaimed artists’
and established galleries, and always welcomes the opportunity to produce editions for new artists.
If an artist is not familiar with the medium of traditional lithography, David will work with them on a one to one
basis, offering advice and guidance, when required.

The Appledore Press also offers a unique service. We will work on location anywhere in Europe, allowing the
artist to work in the familiar surroundings of their own studio during the drawing stage of the process. All
proofing and editioning will of course take place in the Appledore Studio.

david@appledorepress.com to find out how we can assist with any future projects that require the
service of a lithographer.
